I had the chance to drive the 2011 Boxster Spyder this past weekend and it is all I have been able to think about ever since... What to do? I may be in love. The last time I was this giddy about a car it was my R32 when I test drove the model in Phoenix AZ (since no bay area dealers would allow test drives). I have always heard about the natural handling and exceptional feedback that they car gives you, but I had never felt that first hand. Apparently this is the case with other boxsters as well and all with varying degrees of sharpness depending on your options. But this car takes it to another level. It is lighter and more eager feeling than anything I have driven. Also because of its size it is so easy to feel where the car is on the road, it really feels like an extension of your body. So bizarre since I never really believed the hype. Until now.
Does my daughter NEED to go to college? I can retire a few years later than I might otherwise right? Besides I figure I would get bored in my old age and should greet people at Walmart as an activity.. The point is I want this car and am going to have to figure out HOW I can acquire it. The one I drove had less options than I would like, but I am not sure they are show-stoppers at this point.
Sure the top is an umbrella and probably horrible to drive in anything more than a light drizzle. Also I have no garage to park it in so it will constantly be exposed to the elements (would look in to NeverWet as a treatment for the top). Also any slight noise in my driveway at night would wake me up from sleep which takes a toll on over all sleep quality. No one would ever drive it that I had not vetted first.
I have found 6 nationwide that are CPO. likely lease returns, all are black and two are PDK. PDK is the one I am looking at. Yes an auto-box, but the way this thing shifts is amazing. I have a 6sp manual in my R32 and I am not selling that anytime soon, so why not the PDK? Add the sport chrono pack and the total package takes on some super natural sizzle.
I'll know by the end of the week if I can work it out.
